ESPN has acquired the rights to broadcast Mexico's top soccer league live across the United States, reports SportsPro. The broadcaster has reached a deal with another media firm, Azteca América, to show Liga MX games, as well as matches from the Copa MX tournament, until 2015.
Matches will be shown on ESPN2 and ESPN News in English, as well as ESPN Deportes in Spanish.
More than 12 games will be broadcast during the remainder of the current Liga MX season, with the number rising to over 60 league games next season.
"Liga MX has become one of the most competitive and popular soccer leagues in Latin America with a growing number of Mexican and American star players," said Freddy Rolón, vice-president of ESPN Deportes programming and business initiatives.
"Adding more club matches in both languages allows us a greater opportunity to reach the widest possible audience while strengthening our commitment to serve US Hispanic fans across all of our platforms."
The deal further increases Mexican soccer coverage on ESPN. In January the company acquired the English-language rights to Mexican national team games across the United States until the end of 2014, after reaching agreement with Spanish-language rights holder Univision.
