Espanyol insist Albert Riera's release clause must be met for him to move to Liverpool.
"He already knows what the price is if he wants to leave," president Daniel Sanchez Llibre told Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo.
"Albert is clear on where he stands and what needs to be paid for him for us to allow him to leave."
The former Manchester City loanee has made it clear that he wants to return to England but Liverpool must now decide if the winger really is worth what they will have to pay.
"At the moment we haven't received any offer and if nothing comes, whether he likes it or not, he'll have to stay because he is an Espanyol player," added Llibre.
