Espanyol playmaker Ivan De la Pena has announced his retirement.

The 35-year-old former Barcelona and Lazio star has struggled with injuries in recent years.

Speaking at a press conference, a tearful De la Pena said: "I would've liked to have played more these years but, unfortunately, because of the injuries I haven't been able to. I want to thank everyone for all the support I've received.

"My head would like to continue, but my body has said enough."
