Espanyol are threatening to trump Olympiakos for Cruz Azul striker Chelo Delgado.

The 26 year-old has declared he expects to move to Europe in January and was expected to be joining Olympiakos.

However, Olympiakos insiders say Espanyol are threatening the deal and have already tabled a £2.5 million bid to Cruz Azul for the prolific striker.

"I believe that it is the right moment to go to Europe and experience soccer there," said Chelo. "It is the personal challenge that I have.

"It would be ideal and attractive to leave as a champion (of Mexico) and start my career in European football."
