Espanyol admit Man City talks for Joan Angel Roman

Espanyol have confirmed young midfielder Joan Angel Roman is wanted by Manchester City.

City manager Mark Hughes has already splashed out on England international midfielder Gareth Barry and he is expected to bring up several more star names before the season starts.

Although City are believed to be fans of the 16-year-old, who plays in Espanyol's youth team, the Primera Division side say the two clubs are still a distance apart in their valuations.

"Espanyol are still waiting to receive a satisfactory offer from Manchester City for the transfer of Joan Angel Roman," a club statement on their website read.

"The English team have shown themselves to be interested in the midfielder, but must follow the FIFA regulations, which stipulate that the clubs must have an agreement between them for the move to take place.

"It is reminded that in England a player cannot be a professional until he is 17 years old, which means the only way is an agreement between the clubs."
