Eskandarian nets on LA Galaxy debut

Los Angeles Galaxy signing Alecko Eskandarian scored on his debut for the club on Saturday night. The former Chivas USA forward was supposed to start on the bench for the match at The Home Depot Center against New England Revolution but was given a start when Alan Gordon was injured in the warm-up.

Eskandarian managed the only goal of the match, a brilliant volley in the eighth minute, to give his Galaxy career the perfect start.

"When I was younger in my career I probably wouldn't have adapted well to this," said Eskandarian, a former No. 1 overall draft pick.

"But I prepared as if I would start, as far as getting a good night's rest and eating well and all that stuff. Obviously I wasn't expecting to, but I stepped right in.

"A little craziness for a few minutes, but once I got my warmup in I knew I'd be fine.

"I knew I had timed my run perfectly, so I knew I was onside," Eskandarian added.

"I was just hoping the linesman wouldn't blow the call."
