Manchester City boss Sven Goran Eriksson is urging Stephen Ireland to end his international retirement.

With Giovanni Trapattoni confirmed as manager of the Republic of Ireland, Eriksson wants Ireland to reconsider his stand.

The Daily Mail says Eriksson is keen to see Ireland play for his country again and has spent several hours with the Cork-born midfielder trying to persuade him to change his mind about his self-imposed international exile.
