Manchester City boss Sven Goran Eriksson will work with new Republic of Ireland coach Giovanni Trapattoni to convince Stephen Ireland to end his international exile.

Ireland has missed recent internationals for personal reasons and the Italian has already asked about his situation. The Manchester City manager is keen for the midfielder to resume playing for his country.

Eriksson has invited Trapattoni to watch both the 21-year-old and defender Richard Dunne in action against Everton a week on Monday.
