Sven Goran Eriksson has registered Manchester City for this summer's Intertoto Cup.

He told City's website: "It's a possibility. The deadline was last Friday for the Intertoto Cup and we are in that."

With City just two points behind fourth placed Everton the Blues remain well-placed and host the Mersey Blues later this month as they bid to keep Europe in their sights.

Failing that City's registered interest in the Intertoto Cup might be called upon, but as Eriksson added: "Hopefully we don't need to do that."

If so it'll be a shorter summer for the players as City would enter the competition in July.

Eriksson concluded: "I've already told them, 'for you the holiday will be very short,' they know that."
