Manchester City boss Sven Goran Eriksson admits he'll need a "bigger" squad should they qualify for the UEFA Cup.

Eriksson said: "With the squad we have, we have to make it a bit bigger for Europe if we want to be successful and by that I don't mean winning it, I just mean not getting knocked out immediately. But first of all we have to qualify which is a difficult challenge in itself.

"If you have ambitions and at least dream about the Champions League, because that is the target for every big club, you want to be in Europe. You learn a lot from playing in the UEFA Cup. It is a good school. I think we can do that and we can cope as well.

"If we don't do anything, by which I mean not selling or buying, I think we will be better next season but the problem is many teams around us will be better as well. We will definitely be better because this season we have many players who are new to the Premier League.

"I would not say it has been a shock for them but it has certainly surprised them because there are no breaks and there is never an easy game, never an easy game.

"It would be fantastic to finish the season on a high. The players have been working hard."
