Entire team has to lift in Corica's absence - Sydney's Gan

Young Sydney FC midfielder Brendan Gan knows the entire team is going to have to lift to cover the absence of captain Steve Corica on Sunday.

As the Sky Blues prepare for the major semi-final second leg against the Melbourne Victory, Gan believes it too hard for just one player to take over Corica's position after he was ruled out for the remainder of the season with a hamstring injury.

The 21-year old prefers to lay the onus on the rest of the squad rather than taking the huge task of filling Corica's boots on his own shoulders.

''I don't really think of it as there being boots to fill,'' Gan said yesterday. ''That's because nobody can fill the boots of Steve Corica. He's just an amazing player and he will always be remembered as one of Australia's top football talents. You can't just replace that overnight.

''We need to look at how we can lift as a team, all of us, in order to cover Steve's absence,'' he added. ''We've had such a good team atmosphere at this club that nobody really expects anybody to put in one single amazing performance to replace him. It's up to all of us to lift and put in that amazing performance together.

''He was a fantastic player but we've got players who can play in his position and just so long as we play as a team, I think we can do damage this weekend.''
