West Bromwich Albion defender Liam Ridgewell suggests new manager Pepe Mel is making a positive impression on the playing group despite the fact he is still learning English.
The Spaniard signed an 18-month contract with the Baggies earlier this month, replacing Steve Clarke at The Hawthorns, and his ideas and forethought have already impressed Ridgewell.
"The gaffer is working very hard at it (his English). He gets his point across very well and hopefully we showed what he wants on Monday," Ridgewell told the Birmingham Mail in the wake of the 1-1 draw with Everton earlier in the week.
"Football is a universal language - Claudio Yacob and Diego Lugano also speak Spanish.
"He wants to win the ball back very quickly and hopefully we did that. We weren't downhearted before.
"When Steve Clarke went and Keith Downing came in everyone was still upbeat and working hard for the club and still going. Hopefully we can carry that on under the new gaffer. It's something new coming into the club.
"If we start winning games it's fresh and new, if we start losing people will put a different spin on it."
