English FA to speak with ‘flattered’ Hull boss Bruce this week

The Football Association will hold talks with Hull City's Steve Bruce regarding the England managerial vacancy.

The Telegraph is of the belief that Tigers boss Bruce will be interviewed this week as the FA continues their search for Roy Hodgson's successor.

FA director of elite development Dan Ashworth is eager to speak with the 55-year-old to see if he would be interested in stepping into the role which has been vacant since Hodgson resigned in the wake of the Three Lions' disappointing exit at Euro2016 at the hands of Iceland.

Former Manchester United defender Bruce admits he is thrilled to be linked with the job he covets from being a passionate Englishman.

"It's highly flattering and I'm honoured to be linked with it," he said according to the Hull Daily Mail.

"Whether or not it goes any further than that… It's the pinnacle isn't it?

"To manage your country, there's no bigger job. It's all speculation. There's a lot of people who have written nice things and I'm grateful for that."

Regarding the FA hiring an English coach, Bruce added: "Not just because I'm English but I hope they do.

"All these lads do their coaching badges, A licences, pro licences, then in my opinion the top of the FA should be English. I've always said that.

"There's no-one more patriotic than I am and to be linked with it is testament to the fact we're in the Premier League and there's only four or five English managers."

Bruce holds the record for the most promotions to the Premier League as a manager with four - twice with Birmingham City - and twice with Hull City who are back in the top flight after winning the promotion play-off in May.
