England midfielder Katie Chapman has quit American team Chicago Red Stars to return to former club Arsenal, reports BBC Sport. The 28-year-old, one of seven England internationals playing professionally in the United States, was lured back to London by the new women's Super League.

And her return to England has delighted national boss Hope Powell.

"Katie's move back home will be great for the profile of our new league. It's really positive someone of her calibre wants to play in the league," she said.

"It will also be good from an England point of view that she will be readily available rather than having to fly from America to play in internationals for us.

"It can be difficult at times to get England players released from their American clubs, so that's one problem we won't have in future with Katie."

As the mother of two young children, family and the prospect of playing in a new, semi-professional league played a significant role in Chapman's decision to return to her roots.

"Playing with the Red Stars has been a great experience and a new challenge for me, the WPS (Women's Professional Soccer) is a great league to play in," said Chapman, who made her England debut in 2000.

"But it will be nice to be around my family and the Arsenal players again."
