England U21s make it nine wins in a row

The England U21 team have recorded their ninth straight victory with a 4-0 triumph over nine-man Austria in Brighton tonight.

Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey opened the scoring with a thunderous free-kick from the edge of the area late in the first half after Austrian goalkeeper Richard Strebinger was sent off for handling outside the box.

Austria were reduced to nine men early in the second half when Patrick Farkas was given his marching orders after receiving a second yellow card as Chelsea's Middlesbrough loanee Josh McEachran doubled the advantage by converting the ensuing penalty.

Stuart Pearce's men produced a third goal in the 66th minute when Sunderland's Connor Wickham squared up for Bolton striker Marvin Sordell to slot home prior to Wickham getting himself on the scoresheet by rounding replacement keeper Christoph Riegler for England's fourth.
