England U21 coach Gareth Southgate is happy working with Burnley striker Danny Ings.
Ings' chief supporter is Burnley manager Sean Dyche. Unbeknown to the 21-year-old, Dyche had phoned Southgate a couple of times in recent weeks, imploring him to take a chance and select him but he need not have feared. Ings had been on Southgate's radar for some time.
"You find out about players when you bring them away and see how they adapt," Southgate told the Daily Mail. 'But I like his movement and the way he can play nice little through balls. He is also very good at getting across defenders to the near post.
"He has also scored a variety of goals in the games we have seen him - spectacular ones, tap-ins - and I have spoken a lot to Sean Dyche. When Danny was coming on our radar, Sean phoned me and said I should take a look at him. I told him not to worry as he was already in!
"But Danny has got bags of confidence and he is a player that we want to have a closer look at. He has adapted well in things that I have seen from him so far. I should expect that we will be seeing him a lot more."
