England U21 boss Southgate excited working with mavericks Morrison and Lingard

England U21 coach Gareth Southgate is excited to be working with the likes of West Ham United dynamo Ravel Morrison and Manchester United's Jesse Lingard.

England's camp has been abuzz following an astonishing goal from Morrison that has gone viral on the internet and while Southgate is thrilled to have some maverick talents under his care, he has told them there is a time and place to try the unexpected.

"You always have to respect your opponents and how do you show you're a good player?" said Southgate.

"Very often doing the simple things well is a good way to start.

"To try something like Ravel did, which takes the goalkeeper by surprise, I don't think it is a problem.

"It is a little bit different when there is an opportunity to pass somebody in. We've been guilty of over-elaborating as a group.

"Jesse Lingard came on the other night, beat a couple of men, saw Saido Berahino and slides him in to score.

"That's the ruthlessness we have to have."
