England U20s go down to Mexico despite goal from Sunderland starlet Watmore

England's hopes of reaching the final of the 2015 Toulon Tournament were dashed on Wednesday.

Aidy Boothroyd's U20s side were defeated 2-1 by Mexico in Aubagne, ending the manager's 10-game unbeaten streak.

Sunderland young gun Duncan Watmore, who was named the U21 Premier League Player of the Year recently, opened the scoring for the Young Lions with a brave header from a John Swift pass for his second goal of the tournament so far.

However, the Mexicans struck back through Marco Bueno who headed home four minutes into the second half before Martin Zuniga fired home the winner in the 70th minute.

The result leaves England fourth on the five-team Group B table with four points from three matches, three behind leaders Mexico.

Boothroyd's side next meets the winless China on Friday with the best-case scenario being a second-placed finish if Morocco fail to beat Mexico.
