England U20 coach Simpson hopes Young Lions World Cup win can have 'positive impact on English football'

England Under-20 manager Paul Simpson believes that his side's victorious World Cup campaign will benefit English football.

England claimed victory in the Under-20 World Cup by beating Venezuela 1-0 and the triumph is the Three Lions' first at a major global tournament since the historic 1966 World Cup win at Wembley.

Simpson has understandably been left proud of his players' performances during the competition and hopes that the youngsters being crowned World Cup champions will have a positive impact on English football as a whole.

Simpson said: "I hope it has a positive impact on English football. I do not really know what is going to come but it is part of the development that we are trying to create football players who are capable of being successful at senior tournaments and hopefully this will go a long way to achieving that.

"I honestly don't know what it means for English football. But for the Under-20s it means everything. This is what we have worked so hard for."
