England skipper Gerrard: World Cup progress doable

England skipper Steven Gerrard insists they can bounce back from their opening World Cup defeat to Italy.

Liverpool midfielder Gerrard is remaining positive of England's chances of reaching the knock-out stages of the World Cup, despite losing their first match to Italy.

"The challenge is a bit more difficult but certainly doable," Gerrard told BBC Sport after the match.

"We got criticised four years ago for sitting back and being toothless but anyone who watched the game could see we were trying to create.

"We pushed and pushed," he continued. "We gave it everything we've got and were unlucky not to get anything out of it."
