Terry is undergoing an operation on Sunday after suffering a depressed fracture of the cheekbone in Chelsea's 0-0 draw with Fulham.

His injury has placed a question mark over his availability for the 13th October tie with Estonia, and the crucial trip to Russia four days later.

But England coach McClaren is optimistic that his skipper will be in his squad, telling Sky Sports News: "John Terry's okay.

"He is having his operation today and we will see what the outcome is.

"Knowing John Terry he will want to be there, so I'm confident."
