England legend Shilton says LA Galaxy's Beckham won't take record

England's most capped player Peter Shilton is of firm belief that LA Galaxy star David Beckham will not beat his record.

The former Leicester City, Nottingham Forest and Derby County goalkeeper amassed 125 international appearances for the Three Lions over two decades and is adamant that Beckham will not play the required 11 matches to surpass him.

"I think it will be very difficult for David to get back in to the squad on the playing side of it," he said.

"(England coach Fabio) Capello has got to start playing the youngsters - that is my personal opinion. Unless he is playing ninety 90 minutes regularly then I think you have to look to the future, I don't think this bit part business is right for England.

"He has been a fantastic player for England for years but he has been playing bit-parts lately and he had a very serious injury.

"I think it would be a backward step if Beckham was recalled."
