England legend Shilton: Capello should be signed up to 2014

England legend Peter Shilton says the FA should seek to tie down Fabio Capello until after the 2014 World Cup!

Legendary goalkeeper Shilton, who won a record 125 caps, has been so impressed with the way Capello has transformed England since being appointed in December 2007 that he insists talks should start immediately to keep the Italian in place.

The former Watford goalkeeper told the Sunday Mirror: "Fabio has done a terrific job in the time he's been in charge. Not only have we qualified comfortably - which is nice for England for a change - but he's obviously not been in the job long and is still making it his own.

"He can only improve - whatever happens in the final next year. I've heard people say this World Cup could be our only chance of winning it, but I don't go with that at all.

"I think the next World Cup after this in Brazil in 2014 could be very interesting.

"If the FA can keep Capello in charge I think he can develop players and build things up and we can go on from this World Cup and challenge for the next one.

"We have got a lot of good young players coming through and he can only improve us, especially our mental attitude.

"He's brought back some very good basic principles into football and to the England team. That's a good sign."
