England legend Butcher slams captaincy return for Chelsea skipper Terry

England legend Terry Butcher cannot believe Fabio Capello is handing the Three Lions captaincy back to Chelsea skipper John Terry.

In his column for the Sunday Mirror, the Inverness Caley manager wrote: "The Chelsea skipper will be asked by Fabio Capello to resume the England captaincy against Wales next Saturday.

"And we now have the evidence that Capello has lost the plot.

"First, there was the farce of Denmark - when three players (Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole and Gareth Barry) wore the famous armband in 90 minutes.

"And now Terry has been reinstated. After having been contemptuously ignored and insulted by Capello, it must be extremely difficult for the Chelsea man to comprehend the embarrassing U-turn the England coach has now staged.

"Remember that Terry's outspoken comments about the team preparations during last summer's World Cup were not enjoyed by Capello.

"Yet, nine months down the line, the Italian would appear to have utterly forgotten the content of Terry's attack. What message does this send out to the current and future England stars?

"Speak your mind to the media, criticise the manager . . and then you regain the captain's armband!

"Capello gives the impression that he is a man of principle, but he has just thrown all his standards out of the window."
