England World Cup legend feels Manchester United need an experienced goalkeeper.

Asmir Begovic at Banks' former club Stoke City has been linked with United in recent weeks and the former England goalkeeper admits he is surprised Sir Alex Ferguson has not signed an experienced player in the Van der Sar mould.

"I was a little bit surprised that Alex Ferguson hadn't bought a more experienced goalkeeper and paid some good money for him," Banks said.

"If a goalkeeper's doing a good job, it then makes the back four's job easier."
