England goalkeeping legend Gordon Banks is concerned about the lack of depth in the current ranks.
âWeâre very thin on the ground for England goalkeepers now,â he told the Sunday Express.
âJoe Hart is good, but thereâs nobody pressing him and thatâs not a good thing.
âIâm not exaggerating; when I played you could count maybe five goalkeepers that could have come in and done a good job for England. Thatâs why every game I had to keep on my toes.
âYou felt the competition and Alf Ramsey made you sure you thought about that. Heâd make a point of thanking all the players after a match when we were ready to go home, shaking our hands at the reception.
âOne day I said, âIâll see you Alfâ, and he replied, âWill you?â In other words, you werenât picking yourself for the next game. He wanted you to go back and keep playing well for your club to make sure you were selected.â
