England manager Roy Hodgson has urged his side to improve dramatically for their next fixture.
The Three Lions were held to a 0-0 draw by the Republic of Ireland in Dublin on Sunday in a contest which saw few chances created and Hodgson felt it simply was not good enough going into a vital Euro2016 qualifier with Slovenia next weekend.
"We set ourselves high standards and got nowhere near them in the first half," he said. "All credit to Ireland, they caused us problems, particularly with balls to the front players.
"I think we needed this game and this level of competition. Going into the game against Slovenia, there's a lot of things we want to improve on. We were marginally better in the second half, but we were very critical of ourselves.
"We've had a good run, a year almost unbeaten, but we came here believing if we played our best football we could win the game and we never got close to that.
"We didn't lose, but we have to accept there were a lot of things we could have done better."
