England great Banks wonders why Hodgson wasn't appointed earlier

Former England goalkeeper Gordon Banks has questioned the Football Association's decision to leave it so late to appoint Roy Hodgson as manager.

The 64-year old left his post at West Bromwich Albion to take the reins of the England team earlier this month but after edging Norway 1-0 in a friendly on the weekend, Banks wonders why it was such a late appointment knowing that the Euros are to be held in June.

"It was terrible to leave it so late, I couldn't understand that at all. Why wasn't he appointed earlier?" he told reporters at the Grass Roots Football Show.

"England didn't play very well at all on Saturday. If they are going to do anything in the tournament they will have to play better.

"They were a little bit too defensive and I thought Roy was looking for a result which would maybe give the lads a bit of confidence."
