England get better of France in emotional night at Wembley

England have beaten France 2-0 in their international friendly at Wembley Stadium.

In what was an extremely emotional and heartfelt night in London, Roy Hodgson's Three Lions got the better of Didier Deschamps' Les Bleus.

It was a show of unity from both nations in the wake of Friday's horrific terror attacks in Paris as Hodgson, Deschamps and Prince William laid wreaths on the pitch before all were encouraged to sing the French national anthem 'La Marseillaise'.

Players from both sides then formed a ring around the centre of the pitch to observe a minute's silence for the 129 innocent people, including France midfielder Lassana Diarra's cousin, who lost their lives.

Goals either side of the break from Tottenham youngster Dele Alli and captain Wayne Rooney gave England the win but the night will be best remembered for the coming together of the two countries in the face of adversity and evil.

19-year-old Alli, making his first start for England, opened his international scoring account in fine fashion in the 38th minute when he received a pass from Rooney on the right before taking a touch and rifling across club teammate Hugo Lloris and into the top corner from about 25 yards.

England doubled their advantage three minutes into the second half when Manchester United's Rooney volleyed home Raheem Sterling's cross after Alli had dispossessed Paul Pogba in midfield.

Harry Kane tried his luck from range minutes later only to see his effort fly past France skipper Lloris prior to Pogba bending his attempt just wide of the bar after beating off Alli.

Jack Butland produced a clever save to deny Anthony Martial with about 25 minutes remaining before England managed to play out the remainder of the match comfortably despite a few half chances from the French.

'God Save the Queen' rung out around Wembley with 10 minutes remaining before French flags were waved around the stadium as the game come to a close in what was a memorable yet sombre occasion in the English capital.
