England fans want Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney to replace John Terry as captain.
Chelsea skipper Terry suffered yet another blow yesterday as a poll revealed that the Manchester United striker is the new supporters' choice to wear the armband.
Rooney has hit 21 goals this season and, in the eyes of many, has matured considerably having married long-time girlfriend Colleen and become a father.
The 24-year-old marksman was sent off in disgrace at the last World Cup as England crashed to defeat against Portugal.
But Rooney has this season been credited with single-handedly leading United's title challenge following the departure last summer of Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez.
The poll was conducted by men's lifestyle mag Asylum. Of the 22,000 votes cast, Rooney polled 7,072 and Terry 6,745 with Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard coming third on 5,094.
