England FA chief Brian Barwick has made contact with Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster about the national team job, it has been revealed.

Marca says Barwick telephoned Schuster about his interest in the job and whether he could become available from Real.

The German is determined to make a success of his appointment at Real, however, and has politely declined the FA's inquiry.
