England defender Cahill: Lowest point of career

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill admits he's at the lowest point of his career after England's World Cup failure.

Cahill has featured in both of England's defeats.

"The next four days are going to seem like forever," he said. "We just hope that Italy can perform really well in the next two games and leave the last game to try and get a win and that's all we can do but we realise it's going to be very tough.

"The team prepared well. You could see that in the performance. We performed really well. Things will be written, things will be said. But there's nothing you can do about it. I think we will take the full responsibility for what happened.

"A few weeks ago it was one of the highlights of my career [to be called up for a World Cup] and a couple of weeks down the line it's one of the lowest points. It's the worst feeling I have had as a player. There is nothing more I can say."
