England defeat to Italy attracts 200M global TV audience

England's penalty shootout defeat to Italy has set a global television audience record.

The Sun says UEFA say 100 million viewers were logged by the first 20 broadcasters to report ratings, with 100 more still to deliver figures.

England's defeat on penalties to Portugal in the Euro 2004 quarter-finals holds the current record at 228.2 million.

In the United Kingdom 20.3 million saw the game on Sunday compared to the 14.7 million who tuned in for the Queen's Jubilee concert.
