England crushed by Germany in U21 Championship final

A late Sandro Wagner brace enabled Germany to easily demolish England 4-0 in the finals of the U21 European Championship in Malmo. Germany were well worth their victory with the outstanding Mesut Ozil a constant torment to England throughout the night.

Gonzalo Castro set the German's on their way with a 23rd minute strike after good work by Ozil.

Three Lions keeper Scott Loach then gifted the Germans a second goal just after the break when he totally misjudged a swerving Ozil free kick.

Lee Cattermole grazed the bar for England but that was as good as it got for Stuart Pearce's team. Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer did not make a save such was the dominance of England's opponents.

Deprived through suspension of their main attacking treats England relied on Theo Walcott as a lone striker, but he had little support to make any impact.

After England had briefly threatened with two shots scrambled off the line the Germans broke quickly and showed how to finish.

Werder Bremen playmaker Ozil released Sandro Wagner for number three.

Wagner then got his second, and Germany's fourth, in the 84th minute, following a counter-attack.
