England coach Roy Hodgson praised Stoke City striker Michael Owen after his retirement announcement yesterday.
Hodgson led the tributes after Owen announced he will retire in May.
Hodgson said: "His record of 89 England appearances and 40 goals is a magnificent landmark.
Some of his strikes were spectacular and have already gone down in England's modern football history."
Owen has also scored 222 club goals in 480 appearances for Liverpool, Real Madrid, Newcastle, Manchester United and Stoke.
