England coach Hodgson set for Chelsea, Man City battle over US tour

England coach Roy Hodgson is set to do battle with Manchester City and Chelsea over their post-season tour of the US.

England coach Roy Hodgson is set to do battle with Manchester City and Chelsea over their post-season tour of the US.

Hodgson will insist that Chelsea and Manchester City players fly back from their clubs’ end-of-season US tours to represent England against the Republic of Ireland and Brazil.

Hodgson said: "As far as I understand it, there are FIFA international dates in May and June and the first call on the players is for the international teams.

"I’ve now got six or seven weeks to concern myself with who plays against Ireland and who goes to Brazil.

"These are two bona fide matches and a lot of other teams in this period of time are actually playing qualifiers.

"I don’t think I need to have any worries as to whether the players I select will come and play for England because they are aware that we need to prepare well for the autumn internationals."
