England coach Roy Hodgson was delighted for Harry Kane after the Tottenham striker's goal on his international debut last night. Kane latched onto Raheem Sterling's clipped cross and headed home to cap off a truly wonderful rise with a dream debut goal - albeit against a hapless Lithuania.
Hodgson told BBC 5 live: "It's fantastic for Harry Kane and we're delighted for him. It's a bit of a fairy-tale but it's nice when fairy-tales come true and it has come true for Harry. He has had a wonderful season and crowned his debut with a well-taken goal.
"It's good Harry gets his chance and grabs it with both hands - it adds that bit of magic to the evening."
However, Hodgson remains typically cautious about Kane and believes that time will tell in regards to his England future.
He added: "I think it's too early to put this pressure on Harry Kane.
"We should just be happy that he has done so well for Tottenham and made a name for himself to get into the England set-up.
"That's not easy to do as we have a number of good forwards but let's be happy with that and leave the future predictions to the future."
