England coach Roy Hodgson believes Europe will be outsiders in next year's World Cup in Brazil.

Hodgson was buoyed by Sunday's 2-2 draw against Brazil in the Maracana but believes the local conditions will favour South American sides.

Asked about a European team winning the World Cup in the Americas for the first time, he said: "I think it will be very difficult.

"The first thing is the heat. Even in winter months we are seeing 33 degrees. We don't play any games at 33 degrees heat and humidity in England.

"Second, the grass is different. There is nowhere near as much pace on the ball as you get in Europe. So teams will find that a little bit difficult.

"They (Brazil) are very clever, they hoist the ball and are full of these little chips and lifts. It doesn't feature in our game because our pitches don't lend themselves to that.

"Also the pitch is very wide, it is certainly as wide as any we have got in England or even wider. And Brazil have got all these unbelievably technical players."
