England coach Roy Hodgson has thrown down the gauntlet to Southampton striker Ricki Lambert.
Lambert will start tonight's World Cup qualifier against Moldova.
Hodgson said: "It would be wrong if I don't admit the loss of Rooney and Sturridge is a major blow for us.
"But this is an opportunity for the man who's been sitting back trying to take his place - a chance to get the shirt and shine."
