England boss Steve McClaren has been linked with the LA Galaxy job.
The Daily Mail says McClaren's decision to fly 5,500 miles to see David Beckham play in a Mickey Mouse charity match last night caught members of the FA by surprise.
The England coach will argue he had to check on Beckham's fitness before recalling him for England's final European Championship qualifier.
But a game against a Hollywood team boasting Def Leppard guitarist Viv Campbell and Sex Pistols Paul Cook and Steve Jones is unlikely to prove that he is ready to replace Shaun Wright-Phillips on the right wing.
McClaren's trip will, however, increase speculation that he is making plans in anticipation of losing his job if England fail to qualify for the finals.
Los Angeles Galaxy coach Frank Yallop is said to be facing the sack after failing to reach the MLS playoffs, providing a vacancy that McClaren might be keen to fill.
