England boss Hodgson wants Everton ace Stones to cut out mistakes

England manager Roy Hodgson has implored defender John Stones to cut mistakes out of his game.

Stones is regarded as arguably one of the finest young defenders to have emerged from England in recent times but he has endured a largely inconsistent campaign for Everton this term.

Hodgson is a keen admirer of Stones' abilities but the England boss has urged the 21-year-old to reduce glaring errors from his game in order to fulfil his immense potential.

Hodgson said: "It is the nature of breaking into a team as a young player and getting enormous praise.

"Not long ago he was being touted as the best centre-half in the country and touted that all the best teams wanted him.

"He is comfortable, composed and look how good he is bringing ball out and then he makes a couple of mistakes and we want to put it back on his head. I will stay consistent. I expect him to keep doing what he's good at.

"He needs to understand that as a centre-half at a top club you can't make lot of mistakes. You have to cut out those mistakes. But you don't have to change your game and start booting the ball out of the field."
