England manager Roy Hodgson admits it was nice for his side to finish on top of Group D at Euro2012, allowing them to avoid a potential quarter-final with Spain.
Instead the Three Lions will meet Group C runners-up Italy in Kiev on Sunday and Hodgson feels it is a positive not to face the reigning World and European champions just yet.
"They are the clear favourites. They won the last World Cup and European Championship and are favourites to win this one.
"We can't deny we would rather not play them.
"But I have to be very careful what I say for fear of suggesting Italy are not a very good team and worthy opponents.""It has to be an advantage not to face Spain," said Hodgson.
