England boss Capello urges FA to deal in Pearce

England boss Fabio Capello is eager to see coach Stuart Pearce handed a new deal by the FA.

Pearce has a deal until the end of next summer's Under-21s European Championship but he is also part of the senior backroom staff and sits beside Capello on match days.

"I hope Stuart will stay with me," said Capello.

"I am very happy with him. He is a fantastic coach and a fantastic colleague, and I hope he will be with me next season."

Pearce has not tasted defeat inside the 90 minutes as under-21 coach - the only loss being against Holland after a marathon penalty shoot-out in the semi-final of the last Euros.

The FA view Pearce as an exciting home-grown prospect. But his success with the under-21s will inevitably lead to Barclays Premier League clubs looking at the former Manchester City boss.

"I have given a commitment to the FA that no matter what job offers come my way I won't be moving during my contract," said Pearce.

"I will be representing the under-21s until next summer.

"We'll probably get to the summer and take it from there, and it would be nice to have a major trophy in our captain's hands at that time.

"Certainly, to go to the finals next summer is big - and beyond that South Africa 2010 is something to look forward to, if we're good enough to get there."
