England boss Capello: Beckham can be part of 2010 plans

England boss Fabio Capello has again declared that LA Galaxy star David Beckham can be a key part of his 2010 World Cup plans.

He said: "The David Beckham I know can certainly last and get to 2010 if he carries on training as he has done.

"I know him well and know what he can give the team. He has always been a very good professional. Only people like that can last so long in the game.

"Beckham will play a part against France, though.

"It would have been very cruel of me to make him come all the way from the States and not play him."

But Capello made it clear the only thing that matters to him is getting the England team back to a position where they are respected and feared in football.

He added: "We're all on trial, not just the players. We need to get back to being a great team that plays openly against any opponent.

"It's not just about being on trial but also the pride of wearing the shirt."
