Dejan Lovren was full of emotion after Liverpool's 4-3 win over Manchester City on Sunday.
The much-maligned centre-back started in place of the injured Virgil Van Dijk and handed the captain's armband.
Part of the motivation for Liverpool to fork out £75m for Van Dijk was the subpar play of Lovren, but the Croatian was letting none of that take away from the joy he felt on Sunday.
"It was a dream come true," he told the club's website.
"It was something I will never forget in my life. Maybe only once I will wear it but that's enough. It's a great honour to represent a club like Liverpool."
Lovren also posted a photo on Instagram with the caption: "There are no words to describe how proud, honoured and privileged I feel to have captained this incredible club today. And what a game! Brilliant performance from the lads!"
