Emerton crosses fingers that Samba stays with Blackburn

Blackburn midfielder Brett Emerton is hopeful the speculation surrounding star defender Christopher Samba comes to nothing as he is an "important" player for Rovers. The 27-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal this summer - but Australian international Emerton has urged him to stick with Rovers.

Emerton said: "It's very important (Samba stays). He's an important part of our team and I think the club will do everything they can to make sure he stays. I for one hope he does.

"It's been a good pre-season so far and everyone's managed to stay fit and healthy. We should have a fully-fit squad to pick from."
