Aston Villa could have signed Liverpool goalkeeper Scott Carson for chump change, it has been revealed.

Villa will cough up £10 million to buy Carson permanently in January, but former Villa chief scout Ian Broomfield revealed: "We tried to take him to Villa for £600,000 but Doug Ellis wouldn't put his hand in his pocket - now they will have to pay £10m for him."
