Elliot warns Newcastle about getting too excited

Newcastle United goalkeeper Rob Elliot has warned his side not to get carried away following their fine victory over Liverpool on Sunday.

Newcastle managed a shock 2-0 victory over the Reds at St James' Park last weekend and the triumph has certainly filled the Magpies faithful with a lot of confidence.

Elliot was left very happy with the result but has warned his side against complacency heading into the next round of Premier League fixtures which will pit the Toon against Tottenham on Sunday.

Elliot said: "You do get the demons in the back of your head (when you've seen Liverpool have scored six) but I think when you see that you realise: 'Actually, we need to turn up, because if we don't give 100 per cent against a team like these, they will hurt you.' I think we did that and showed what we can do.

"On the contrary though I don't want us to get too excited about us turning the corner or anything because we've done this previously and we haven't fulfilled it so I think we need to take positives from the game, like the three points.

"But we need to keep reminding ourselves of how we got the three points and why we got such a good reception from the crowd and why it was such a good day after the work we put in."
