Newcastle United goalkeeper Rob Elliot is happy to be back in preseason training.

Elliot along with Dan Gosling, Danny Simpson, Shane Ferguson, Mehdi Abeid and James Perch were back for pre-season tests at the club's training base yesterday.

He told the Evening Chronicle: "Not every footballer likes pre-season but it is good to be back.

"After last season there is a real buzz about the place.

"It is pretty much the same group of lads here as last year and the staff are the same so it's a good vibe.

"Pre-season for me, though, is a good time - I should get a few games."
