'Electrifying' Everton notch up milestone wins over Man Utd

Everton boss Roberto Martinez was over the moon for his side after they completed a rare double against Manchester United on Sunday.

The Toffees defeated the Red Devils 2-0 at Goodison Park to notch a winning home and away pair over the Old Trafford outfit for the first time in 44 years, delighting Martinez.

"This was an important win for our fans," said the Spaniard.

"We knew that since the 1969-70 season we had never done the double over United and I think that is when we won the league.

"That tells you this group of players is ready to develop.

"That performance was full of energy, it was dynamic on the counter attack. I thought we looked electrifying."

First-half goals from Leighton Baines and Kevin Mirallas saw Everton remain within a point of fourth-placed Arsenal with three league fixtures remaining in the 2013/14 season.
